Preliminary measurements on single and multi-crystal diamond electron cathodes

Minehara, Eisuke

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.55 - 56, 2005/07

The next generation high brightness and high current electron source like a photo cathode, a thermionic cathode, a crystal Diamond electron cathode and others would be expected to realize the next generation ERL (energy recovery linac) based light source and SASE X-ray free-electron laser. The JAERI FEL group has recently started to develop a new crystal Diamond electron cathode technology for high current, high brightness, and long life electron source. In the presentation, we plan to explain and to discuss our strategy and a preliminary experimental measurements of the crystal Diamond cathode, and related Diamond cathode evaluation system.

Structure reform and special economic zone in large helium liquifier complex for the 4th generation ERL light source

Minehara, Eisuke

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.200 - 201, 2005/07

As the fourth generation energy recovering super-conducting linac (ERL) driven light source is planned to develop and to build as the most advanced national light source facility in Japan, this is a conceptual design work and key components developmental programs including a 200MeV prototype construction. Our existing 4K zero-boil off refrigerator cryogenic and a huge 2K liquefier facility will be combined to make a new hybrid one. Because all cryogenic devices in Japan have been seriously and unnecessarily controlled and affected their safety, maintenance, operation and construction over these several tens years, we will therefore have to cut back excess safety regulation in Japanese domestic high pressure vessel code using a structure reform and special economic zone policy.

Measurement of a chirped pulse generation from the ERL-FEL

Iijima, Hokuto; Hajima, Ryoichi; Nagai, Ryoji; Minehara, Eisuke; Yamauchi, Toshihiko

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.793 - 795, 2005/07

We report the construction of FEL transport line and the measurement method of chirped FEL pulse. An infrared-chirped pulse is an effective way of dissociating molecules. The chirped FEL pulse oscillator is operated by the JAERI-FEL superconducting accelerator, in which a long pulse of electron beam is produced. Until now, the chirped pulse was measured to be $$Deltaomega/omega_0$$ = 14.3% with the wavelength of 23.3 $$mu$$m and the pulse width of 319 fs at FWHM by an autocorrelation. In order to measure the correlation between time and frequency in the chirped pulse directly, the frequency-resolved optical grating (FROG) is developing. Since the measurement is performed in new experimental room, the vacuum transport line guiding the FEL to the room has been constructed.

Measurement of emittance for electron bunches compressed by velocity bunching via double-slit-scan method

Iijima, Hokuto; Hajima, Ryoichi; Uesaka, Mitsuru*; Sakumi, Akira*; Sakamoto, Fumito*; Ueda, Toru*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.501 - 503, 2005/07

We report the availability of velocity bunching in an energy recovery linac (ERL) by a numerical analysis, and the plan of precise measurement of bunching emittance via a double-slit-scan method. The simulation performed for eight TESLA-type cavities reveals successful bunch compression from 3.2 ps to 0.17 ps. Since the residual energy spread after velocity bunching is considerably smaller than the correlated energy spread required for magnetic compression through a recirculation loop, velocity bunching is useful to realized short-pulse and high-brightness X-rays by ERL. The emittance of velocity bunching was calculated to be 1.5 $$pi$$mm.mrad for the bunch charge of 77pC without the emittance compensation by an external solenoid field. Although the emittance growth due to the space-charge effect was small in the simulation, it is necessary to evaluate the emittance-growth mechanism under velocity bunching. Therefore, the emittance measurement via double-slit-scan method is carrying out in the UTNL-18L.

Sako, Hiroyuki; Sakaki, Hironao; Takahashi, Hiroki; Yoshikawa, Hiroshi; Ito, Yuichi*; Kato, Yuko*; Kamikubota, Norihiko*; Sugimoto, Makoto*; Watanabe, Kazuhiko*; Ikeda, Hiroshi*; et al.

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.462 - 464, 2005/07

Current status of the RDB system in J-PARC LINAC is presented. The machine database records static data of devices and the control system, whereas the operation log database records a history of operation parameters. The overall design of control flow among high-level applications, simulators, and database is described. Then results of a control test of the power supply for DTQ, and a prototype test of the operation log database in MEBT1 test bench at KEK are reported. In the end, a scheme to generate simulation configuration files from RDB is shown.

Tamura, Fumihiko; Schnase, A.; Nomura, Masahiro; Yamamoto, Masanobu; Yoshii, Masahito*; Anami, Shozo*; Ezura, Eiji*; Hara, Keigo*; Omori, Chihiro*; Takagi, Akira*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.690 - 692, 2005/07

We describe the low level RF (LLRF) control system for the J-PARC Rapid Cycling Synchrotron (RCS). The LLRF system is required to be very stable and precise to achieve the high accelerating beam current. The system has the functions of the multi-harmonic RF generation, the feedback loops, the beam loading compensation, and other miscellaneous functions. The fully-digital LLRF system of the RCS is now under construction. The preliminary test results are also shown.

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.251 - 253, 2005/07

L3BT is a beam transport line from J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) linac to the succeeding 3-GeV RCS (Rapid Cycling Synchrotron). Recently, the positions of the debunchers in L3BT are revised to optimize the momentum spread at the RCS injection. In this paper, results of the beam simulation of the L3BT with the new debuncher locations are presented. The construction status of the L3BT is also presented in brief.

Status of the ECR ion source for TRIAC

Nakanoya, Takamitsu; Matsuda, Makoto; Fujii, Yoshio*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.729 - 730, 2005/07

TRIAC (Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex) facility can accelerate both radioactive and stable ion beams up to 1.1Mev/u. In this facility, an ECR ion source is used for production of stable ion beams. Stable ion beams are used mainly as a pilot beam for radioactive ion beam. ECR ion source is required to produce many kinds of ion species, not only gas state elements. So, we developed a high temperature oven for obtaining metal ion beams. This paper describes the design and detail of the oven and experimental results.

Performance study of low-level RF analog feedback control system for J-PARC linac

Kobayashi, Tetsuya; Chishiro, Etsuji; Suzuki, Hiroyuki*; Anami, Shozo*; Yamaguchi, Seiya*; Michizono, Shinichiro*; Kawamura, Masato*; Fukui, Yuji*; Fang, Z.*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.320 - 322, 2005/07

Total System of 324MHz-Low Level RF Control for J-PARC Linac was produced and its performance study was done. In this system, in order to stabilize the Klystron output and to compensate the linearity of that, an analog feedback control system is adopted. The response function including phase characteristic (vector locus) of this feedback system was obtained by means of measurement. From this result the prospect for the transient analysis is discussed.

Development of user interface for accelerator components database

Watanabe, Kazuhiko*; Yoshikawa, Hiroshi; Sakaki, Hironao; Takahashi, Hiroki; Kawase, Masato*; Sugimoto, Makoto*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.451 - 453, 2005/07

In J-PARC, we manage the accelerator devices data using the relational database. It is used for managing physical value of all devices. We request the database to generate EPICS records, and the managed data must always the latest. Some data is treated by operator who doesn't have enough experience of database input. If they feel the input is difficult, the input of the database stagnates. In the worst case, the database might not be used. This paper reports the database GUI for operator who doesn't have enough experience of database.

Development of remote control JAVA tool for PLC

Kawase, Masato*; Takahashi, Hiroki; Sakaki, Hironao; Ito, Yuichi*; Sugimoto, Makoto*; Watanabe, Kazuhiko*

Proceedings of 2nd Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 30th Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan, p.633 - 635, 2005/07

In J-PARC control System, machinery having a network controller(NTC) is operated with EPICS. A NTC can also connect with an upper level computer directly, while in EPICS, an IOC is used for communication between an upper level computer and a NTC. In case of a communication error, one must investigate the source of the error, whether it is due to the NTC. It becomes very effective if one can switch the connection method between EPICS and direct connection on an operation screen. We report on a development of a tool realizing such functionalities.
